Cherye Diane West West-Tucker

After HS, I attended Austin College in Sherman, TX, and received a BA in Music and MA in Education. While in college, I served as first trumpet in the Sherman Symphony. For my masters project, I started a band in Van Alstyne, TX, then served as band director for 5 years. In 1979, I moved to Austin, where I began working at UT Austin, and have been there for the last 38 years. My last positions at UT were with the Provost's Office at UT, then with Project 2021, a project set up to bring technology options to courses at UT. I am now retired and living in Early, Texas.

In 1991, my beautiful daughter, Marguerite, was born, and she has been my greatest joy. She received her degree from UT in Computer Science, and is now working in Austin. Eight years ago, I married Keith Tucker, and am living a wonderful life with him as my great love, partner, and best friend.

I have loved playing racquetball and volleyball, and even fencing (epee and sabre), and continue to play racquetball as often as my knees will allow. Now that we are in Early, I have taken up tennis, after a hiatus of about 50 years. It's a slow process, but I'm determined to get back into the swing of things. Pun intended.

I remember, with great fondness, Mr. Thaxton, Mr. Glover, and Mr. Bell, all of whom enhanced my love of music. Many thanks to the math department, as well: they made math fun.
