John was a good guy and a good friend. Although I haven't see him since HS graduation, I have had many reoccurring memories of our good times together. He had a positive impact of folks, and was the master of sarcasm. He was a good athlete as well. Several of us would meet up at different elementary schools or parks on fall weekends and play touch football. I sorry to hear of his passing, but I'm confident he's in good hands.

John and I became friends in 5th grade and kept up through the ages. In my considered opinion he was one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, and out-and-out impressive and delightful people I've known.  He lived a fruitful and highly satisfying life, l'm happy to report, and I miss him deeply.  He was such a kick to know, including when his wilder nature arose.  Shortly before his passing I found an old photo from the summer after our 7th grade of John chasing Alan Swagerty around my backyard with a running lawnmower: happy days!

It was a shock to see the news about John passing from leukemia, I went to every reunion hoping to find him there.  The beautifully written obituary shared the post Cooper information about the life of my good friend that I was missing - and he led the life he wanted.  John was one of my very favorite characters in the Abilene saga.  There are countless memories and laughs that we shared, some adventures that we survived (as young lads somehow do), and some great friendships that were developed.  John was the best of us all.

A flood of good memories.  All of the other comments are exactly the way I remenber John.  We used to walk from his house on Elmwood out to their farm(just S of the old dragstrip) on Sat.  A good friend; RIP.

John and I attended Crockett Elementary, Jefferson Jr. High , and Cooper together. He and I crossed paths at UT as well. The last time I saw John was at my, Russell Cain's and Mike Lawrence's apartment in Austin when I was struck by his bushy hair and full "mutton chop" sideburns. As I recall, he worked at one of the UT Libraries.

I always enjoyed being around John ( but not necessarliy in front of John when he would  blow snuff particles on the back of my shirt in Ms. Williams' Latin class where he sat behind me - much to the chagrin of Stephane Green ).  I was intrigued by his "Alamo" house on Elmwood Drive and wanted to see what it looked like inside. I never did.

I am sorry to hear of John's death. Rest in Peace, you "snuff dipper".
