Dan's parents and my parents became friends during our time living on the base. His family and our family spent a lot of time together along with several Thanksgivings. One Thanksgiving at our house, Dan, his sister, my sister and I went to their house to listen to records and avoid kitchen duty! Dan cut out a large circle of cardboard, cut out a notch on the cardboard, attached the center of the circle to an electric drill, and he somehow rigged up a lamp in the mix. When he turned on the electric drill, we had a strobe light! Good times.
